Household cleaners is where I was TOTALLY fooled for years, guys!
One of the major contributors to children’s health issues is environmental exposures. Everything I clean with, everything I “scent” the air with, everything I wash their clothes and bedding with, everything I put on their hair and bodies….that’s all part of the big picture that is their health. It takes 30 SECONDS for chemicals to go from your skin to your bloodstream. It’s MY responsibility to figure it out, and I admit to having just relied on the “natural” and “green” labels and marketing schemes for years. Lemme tell ya, Mrs. Meyers had me SOLD. Their Orange Clove? I practically bought stock in that stuff between all of their varying products. And then I learned more…and found that they’re rated 9/10 on the toxic scale. They even have some products that rate the HIGHEST of all their competitors!!
In 2012, the EWG reviewed 2,000 household cleaning products. They found that 53% of cleaning products contain ingredients harmful to the lungs AND 22% of cleaning products contain chemicals known to cause asthma in otherwise healthy people. Most household cleaners contain carcinogens (cancer causing toxins), endocrine disrupters (mimic hormones, leading to infertility, miscarriage, premature puberty, menstrual issues, and ADHD, to name a few), and neurotoxins (disrupts normal function of nerve cells).
This is one area where I DEFINITELY stick with Young Living specifically. Their Thieves Cleaner is a lifesaver, time saver, and money saver. You can get some 50 uses from one bottle of Thieves, and it replaced ALL my cleaners. No kidding. Like, this one allows you to ditch all-purpose cleaner, disinfectant, degreaser, surface scrubs, toilet cleaner, glass cleaner, floor cleaner… It’s AMAZING. It’s an answer to prayer.
What do you guys think?? Who else is outraged that we can be sold products in the stores under the guise of “natural”, “safe”, “non-toxic” and the like, when in reality they’re absolutely not?!?
