A handful of reasons why we love Lamp+Light Minimalist Homeschool Curriculum, and it was an answer to 9 years of homeschool prayers (after trying out nearly everything else quite eclectically over the years)…
1. It simplified so much for us. It’s K-12, much of it can be done via group work (and I’ve found that learning together- yes, all age groups from pre-K through high school at once, creates such precious memories!), and the way it’s designed means I don’t have to buy all new supplies every single year.
2. The Biblical foundation is great, coming through in almost every subject.
3. It was created by a stay at home mom at her home, and was bought and continued by another mom. I love knowing I’m supporting the epitome of a small business.
4. It truly is minimal. It reminds me of the comparison of learning an inch deep and a mile wide vs a mile deep and an inch wide…with L+L I feel like there is so much more DEPTH to what we learn, and we don’t just skim over a bunch of topics to “cover our ground” or to meet certain standards. The goal of school should be to foster a love of learning, not to cram as much as we can into their heads in a short amount of time.
5. It’s not a busy work curriculum like so many are. There’s no time-consuming workbooks or wasted efforts, it’s all very intentional. It has slowed us down in so many ways, and that’s GOOD and was much needed.
6. Every subject is covered in the curriculum except for math, as that’s pretty individual by student. But because it is minimalistic and simpler, I haven’t found the need to have to try and “tailor” each subject to each individual child as much. It’s easier to go at their level and their pace than with other programs and curriculums we’ve used.
7. It’s just flat out beautiful. The books, the content, the pages, the art notebooking, the literature selections, the flow of the work, the watercolor themes…just gorgeous!
I talk a lot about Lamp+Light because we enjoy it so much, but many people have no idea what this curriculum is, because yes, it’s newer! We started using it upon the initial release, then this school year was the release of Year 3, and it’s coming out steadily year by year. I’ve also noticed that some people really struggle with L+L because it IS minimalist in many ways, and they’re used to having a lot of busy work. If you prefer that method of learning, L+L probably isn’t for you or your family. But if you want something simple, beautiful, and intentional, I highly recommend checking them out!
