On Monday, we loaded our family into our minivan, along with what (once we got on the road) I immediately knew was too much stuff, and began an open-ended cross country road trip.Initially, we were supposed to be in Kauai to begin a 6+ month “sabbatical”, where we could bond and heal as a family, and Luke even had some job offers. Even our other vehicle ended up there without us! But in the end, God closed that door and directed us this way. Basically, we tried every day (and night) to find housing, and instead discovered how, unfortunately, Kauai is contributing to it’s own housing crisis by catering to a certain demographic.
But we feel like it was a win-win either way. An adventure no matter what. So far we’ve experienced places we’ve never visited before in cities we know, as well as two brand new (to us) states. And we still have so much ahead of us.
This is a period of “freedom” from the typical American lifestyle that we knew might be once-in-a-lifetime. People think we are crazy for doing this, especially since it began with my husband ending his 17-year paramedic career (which is a story of its own).
But hey, we’re just in this world, not of it! We’re breaking a mold to focus on what’s most important in this lifetime…strengthening our marriage, raising our arrows, and intentionally cherishing our time together.
