My lucky hubby got to be my guinea pig! As many of you know, he was injured (lower back and hip) at work several months ago while moving a patient, and has struggled with pain ever since, despite different forms of treatments and therapy ordered by his workman’s comp doctors (from OT to PT to neurosurgeon to chiro!). Weโre approaching it several different ways, but obviously I had him try these two for pain, topically!!
Deep Relief is an essential oil roll-on (it only comes in a roller bottle), containing a combination of oils that are highly regarded for their anti-inflammatory properties. It’s great for sore muscles, joints and ligaments, tension headaches, stressed nerves, sprains, spasms, bumps, bruises and sports injuries. It contains peppermint, lemon, balsam fir, copaiba, clove, wintergreen, helichrysum, vetiver, and Palo Santo, in a carrier of fractionated and virgin coconut oils. It can be applied directly to muscles, cramps, and bruises, as well as the brow, back of neck, and temples (for tension headaches).
PanAway*, on the other hand, has aspirin-like properties due to containing wintergreen, and not only helps reduce pain but also stimulates quicker healing by getting more oxygen to the tissue site. This blend contains wintergreen, helichrysum, clove and peppermint. This contains hot oils and does NOT come in a carrier, so it usually needs to be diluted (although I’ve used it straight before). It can be applied as a compress, but is most often used directly on location for muscles, cramps, bruises and pain. Approximate frequency is 112 MHz.
So what was Luke’s conclusion? He tried the Deep Relief roller first, while at work. He wasn’t highly impressed with the scent in the beginning (it’s minty, in my opinion, not sure what there is to not like! ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ) but said it DID feel very good on his skin. He used it on his back as well as on the back of his neck- the guy works 24 hour shifts so you can imagine the kind of stress he holds there! He said it definitely did help the pain while the oil was present, but that- in his own words- the “offgassing” was strong (๐) which made it feel like it was in more places than where he applied it, after getting on his clothes. ๐ถ
The next day I had him try PanAway. He felt like the PanAway worked nicely, as well, without having as strong of a scent, or again, in his words, “offgassing” as much. He couldn’t feel it on his skin to the same extent as he did with the Deep Relief (which he almost preferred), but still felt it eased the pain well while the oil was present.
Both oils seem to be helping him nicely with the pain, and it’s great to know that they’re not just easing a symptom, but also helping him heal.
